Michelle Smith, Intern
Michelle's Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Studies from UVM provides a solid foundation for her systems-thinking approach giving her the ability to draw from multiple theories and techniques to tailor sessions and treatments to individual clients. With a particular interest and focus on the Internal Family Systems (IFS) psychotherapy approach, Michelle believes that healing is possible regardless of time or circumstance. As a trained meditation teacher, her practice is trauma-informed, non-pathologizing, and grounded in the idea that anyone can create space within to build self- awareness and trust to spark conflict management and resolution, goal setting and achievement, and treatment planning and follow-through.
In addition to IFS, Michelle draws from her 20+ years of professional experience including such theories as Strength-Based Therapy, Appreciative Inquiry, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Mindful-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SF-BT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). A culturally competent practitioner, she enjoys working with diverse clients and populations including adolescents, adults, couples, LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC individuals.
