About Us

With nearly 25 years of experience working with adults, children, adolescents, couples and families, we bring a non-judgmental and down to earth approach to therapy. We offer a safe environment that provides a supportive place to vent with a person who is trained as an effective, reflective listener. Using a combination of professional and personal skills that include insight, practicality, empathy and warmth, we help people understand and resolve their difficulties and struggles.

We specialize in treating individuals with Anxiety including Social Anxiety, School Anxiety and Generalized Anxiety, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD/ADHD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Trauma, Obsessive compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Anger Management.

In addition to this private practice, the owner, Karen Weinberg LeClaire, LMHC, has spent many years working with the Juvenile Court and Probate & Family Court systems as a Guardian ad Litem and can also help individuals and families navigate through the processes and work through the stress related to these difficult life situations.

PTSD & Complex Trauma

Most people will experience trauma, first hand and/or witnessing of it to another, in their lifetime whether it's a car accident, childhood abuse or neglect, the sudden death of a loved one, sexual assault or abuse, a violent criminal act, exposure to the violence to war, invasive medical procedures or illnesses, attachment wounds, bullying, natural disaster and/or more.  More simply, trauma is too much - too fast with the inability to fully process what has happened.

While many people can recover from trauma over time with the love and support of family and friends and bounce back with resiliency, others may discover effects of lasting trauma, which can cause a person to live with deep emotional pain, fear, confusion, or posttraumatic stress far after the event has passed.  In these circumstances, the support, guidance and assistance of a therapist is fundamental to healing from trauma.

We offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy and Brainspotting (BSP) for those individuals who have experienced trauma.

As the tragedy unfolds in Ukraine and millions of refugees have already fled to neighboring countries, the impact of this war will be felt for years.  With their lives uprooted and loved ones left behind, help is needed for those affected to come to terms with displacement and deal with anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.  North Andover Counseling and Karen Weinberg LeClaire are in the process of setting up Pro Bono/free services to help the Ukrainian Refugees obtain therapy sessions, including EMDR, for their mental health needs.

Animal Assisted Therapy

Did you know that animals help us regulate our breathing and increase levels of serotonin and dopamine?  We offer Animal Assisted Therapy which uses companion animals, such as dogs, to provide opportunities for motivation, education, or recreation to improve a person's quality of life.  Through interacting with animals, people of all ages can experience the power of the human-animal bond.  This bond can produce a calming state in the person.  Animals seem to be particularly helpful in facilitating the therapeutic alliance, which we know to be a major part of what makes counseling effective.  Animals, canines specifically, offer an atmosphere of unconditional support along with having an ability to respond to and understand unspoken human emotions.

We know it’s hard to make that first call. We believe that we can work together to create a therapeutic relationship from which you can grow and improve your life. I encourage you to come in and meet with us.

We look forward to working with you!
